Unthought Known

A much delayed post.

On monday Oct 17th, 2011. I went down to Santa Cruz to the Rio Theatre to see Ryan Adams.
Jason Isbell opened up and played 8 songs and then Ryan played for 2.5hours. I think total of 23 songs with just him, his guitar and harmonica. He did play two songs on the piano including a wonderful stripped down version of 'New York, New York.'
This was my fifth trip to Santa Cruz this year and I fall more and more in love with the city every time. I know lots of people who want to live in San Francisco but I will choose the mountains and the beach any day.

About a month ago, a house few blocks from where I live caught on fire. I walked past it few days later to see what kind of shape it was in. It's kind of sad to see a house burnt down but there is also some type of beauty in it.

A few weeks ago, as I was walking out of the King Library I noticed this on the ground near a bench.

Impresario

Last night was perfect. I went to Slims in San Francisco with my friends Ryan and Nicole. I have nothing but good memories from my time spent at that venue. I have seen countless acts there and it was all the very first venue I went to in San Francisco.

First up was Evan from Into it.OVer it. He is a good guitar player but I felt like most of his songs sounded the same.

Second was Andrew Jackson Jihad. I saw them back in June as part of the Asian Man 15 Fest and I was really impressed with their live act so I was looking really forward to their set. They played everything I wanted to hear...everything. There was also a good amount of singing along and circle pits going on for their set.

Next up was the one and only Frank Turner with the Sleeping Souls. This was my sixth time seeing Frank and second time with a backing band. Most of the songs he played were more towards the upbeat pop type but it was fun none the less.

Somethings that I will remember from the night...I have never drank at a show until last night. Once I got in the venue, I went straight to the bathroom and spent few minutes washing them off my wrists. My buddy bought me few beers and since I no longer had the stamp, I could drink freely. I'm not sure if I will do this again but I do believe it helped me lossen up and made the signing along a lot more easier.

Expectations.

Last week, I applied for graduation. For some reason I haven’t shared the news with many people and out of the people that I did share the news, only one responded in a way I had hoped everyone to respond. In a way, I understand how not every one is excited to leave college like I am so maybe it’s unfair to expect a type of response from everyone that I shared the news with.

So now that I have had few days to think over it and let the news settle in, I don’t know if I’m content with where I am today. I was looking forward to college graduation before I even began my first day of class at SJSU, I wanted to be done and over it before I even moved into the dorms. I had a certain idea of what kind of person I would be and what I would have accomplished by the time I graduate and I guess the fact that things are not how I imagined it would bothers me in a way. I’m not saying that I failed in doing certain things or that I choose the direction, the things that are out of my control aren’t exactly where I hoped they would be by today.

Festivals

I'm always amazed by how uncreative we are as human beings sometimes. I don't understand why we have a 'Walnut' street in every town, why we have a 'Newark' in New Jersey and California, same goes with 'Pittsburg' in California and Pennsylvania...you get the point. Is it really hard to come up with different name?

I'm not a big festival type of guy. Yeah, the atmosphere and vibe is nice but the food is usually overpriced, there's always a big line for the bathroom and you always end up missing one of the acts because someone else is playing at the same time.

Thank being said I had a pretty decent time at FYF Fest this weekend. It was all because of Explosions in the Sky.

Goodbye Hooray.

Well, it's finally here. One of the most dreadful days of the year, the last day of summer is finally here. I have to say, it was quite a productive summer and one of the shortest summer I have ever encountered.
Here's what I want to remember.
Live Music I witnessed:
June 11: Title Fight, Shook Ones, Touche Amore, The Menzingers
June 17: Andrew Jackson Jihad, Shinobu, O Pioneers!!!, The Wild
June 22: Two Gallants, The Mumlers
July 25: Rademacher
July 28: The Henry Clay People
August 5: Jimmy Eat World, Dead Country and Dustin Kensrue
August 12: Joyce Manor, Shinobu, Four Tomorrow
August 16: Bomb the Music Industry!, The Sidekicks, Hard Girls

I also had the pleasure to attend my very first San Jose Giants game, Los Angeles Dodgers game and after a three year hiatus, I made a visit to the Angel Stadium of Anaheim to watch the halos play.

There were also very 'firsts' for me this summer...I went to the Santa Cruz boardwalk and rode the big dipper for the first time, played Scrabble, Ride the Bus and Pictionary for the first time and went to the Palm Desert for the first time in my life.

Along with many other productive things, I'm glad I started and finished four books this summer...Ask the Dust by John Fante, Catcher in the Rye and Apathy and Other Small Victories by Paul Neilman and Ham on the Rye by Bukowski.

As always, I do have few regrets about the summer, but at the moment I rather just focus on the good things that happened.

La Quienta Police

Panther Beach.

If I had to write one sentence to describe this summer, it would be:
I'm finally getting older and growing up

Summer Update

What I have been up to the past few weeks:

The Henry Clay People at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, CA

Late Night Nature Trail Adventure.

Rademacher at DiPiazza's in Long Beach, CA

Risk!

This was on the front porch of my friend Robbie's house

Halos vs. the Twins

Street art in Los Angeles.

I saw this car and immediatly thought of my older sister. So I took a picture and sent it to her.

None of these pictures are in particular order. The reason I uploaded them here was because I'm too lazy to write about my summer adventure and I have a feeling that I am going to keep in contact with this blog a lot longer than with facebook.
